My dad told me he joined because he wanted to better his life. My grandpa was none too happy because this was the height of vietnam and my grandpa was in WW2 and knew what war was like.. My dad ended up leaving HS and at the age of 17..1967..grandpa signed for my dad. Dad always told me that joining the Marines was the best thing he ever did for himself.
