Break up after long term relationship and then got back together successes?

My boyfriend and I of going on 4 years broke up almost 1 month ago. We were really close to eachother. He broke up with me because of bickering. He said he just "snapped" and can't take it anymore. We haven't contacted eachother any since the break-up...my question is this: Is almost a month too late to communicate with eachother? Is it too late for any chance of ever getting back together? I am just wondering if anyone's broken up after a long term relationship and then after a few months or any amount of time, you got back together? I need all the encouragement I can get. I appreciate any advice, thanks everyone so much!
